On Sunday, November 24, 2019, Berlin FC secured the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom North Eastern regional championship title after a thrilling 2-0 victory over Al Ansar at the Garissa Teachers Training College Grounds in Garissa.
After a goalless first half, Berlin FC's Noor Osman broke the deadlock in the 67th minute, followed by Abdalla Marro's second goal in the 88th minute, securing the title for the Garissa-based team.
Berlin FC had previously met Al Ansar in the final last season, with Berlin FC emerging victorious in a post-match penalty shootout.
Abdalla Marro, a striker for Berlin FC, expressed confidence in the team's performance, stating, 'We have been training hard in preparation for this tournament. We rectified the past mistakes we made in the National Finals and this time we promise to put up a better performance and win the national trophy.'
The winning team received Sh200,000 and will represent the region at the national finals set for June 2020 at Bomu Stadium, Mombasa.
Al Ansar, the runners-up, took home Sh100,000, with players receiving individual prizes.
The tournament will now move to Mombasa, where the Coast regional finals will be held on December 7 and 8 at Bomu Stadium, accompanied by coaching clinics by La Liga coaches.
Chapa Dimba na Safaricom aims to develop grassroots football and provide a platform for gifted players to be scouted and play for the National team as well as top-tier local and international teams.
As part of the program, an all-Star team comprising 16 girls and 16 boys will be selected to attend a 10-day training camp in Spain, where they will play friendly matches against top La Liga academies.
Notable awards included MVP - Noor Osman, Golden Boot - Abdalla Marro, Best goalkeeper - Yahya Mohamed, and scouted players for the La Liga training camp.
