Tragedy struck in Nyunzu market, Makueni County, when a 27-year-old woman and her two young daughters lost their lives in a suspected arson attack.
According to reports, Faith Mang'eli and her children, aged 5 and 2, were among five occupants of a house situated on the Makindu-Wote road.
Regina Mueni, Faith's 49-year-old mother, and Monica Matolo, her 75-year-old grandmother, sustained serious burns and are receiving treatment at the Makueni Referral Hospital.
Police investigations are ongoing, with Makueni sub-county Police Commander Timothy Maina suggesting that the fire could have been started using petrol, citing a strong petrol smell in the room.
The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to the Makueni Referral Hospital mortuary.
