Published on November 24, 2019, Harambee Starlets head coach David Ouma has cautioned his players against committing avoidable fouls in the Cecafa Women Senior Challenge final.
Starlets secured a spot in the final after defeating Burundi 5-0 in the semifinals, and Ouma is determined to leave nothing to chance in the final match.
Striker Jenrix Shikangwa was the standout player in the semifinal match, scoring two goals in the 54th and 77th minutes. Other scorers included skipper Dorcas Sikobe, Mwanahalima 'Dogo' Adam, and Corazone Acquino.
According to Ouma, 'I am grateful for the perfect job done by my girls. They have shown determination and eagerness to lift the trophy. However, I noticed that they conceded several avoidable fouls in the match against Burundi, which I want them to rectify in the final.'
Ouma also emphasized the importance of avoiding dead-ball situations, which can lead to scoring opportunities for the opposing team.
Despite some players being injured, including Mwanahalima Adam and Cynthia Shilwatso, Ouma is optimistic that they will be fully fit for the final match. The team will also be boosted by the return of Mercy Airo, who has completed her suspension.
The Cecafa Women Senior Challenge final will be a repeat of the 2016 edition, where Uganda defeated Kenya 2-1. Starlets will be looking to avenge their loss and lift the trophy.
