On Saturday, Ibrahim Taraiya, a supervisor at Eastmatt Supermarket in Kajiado, was rearrested following a social media outcry over a violent incident caught on CCTV camera.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) had issued an order for Taraiya's arrest after the video of him assaulting a teller at the supermarket went viral.

According to police reports, Taraiya is currently at Kajiado Police Station and will be arraigned on Monday at the Kajiado Law Court to answer charges of assault.

Initially, Taraiya was arrested on Tuesday after the victim, Sharon Atieno, reported the incident, but he was later released following an agreement between the two parties.

However, the release of the CCTV footage sparked widespread outrage on social media, prompting the ODPP to intervene and order Taraiya's rearrest.

Eastmatt Supermarket has since confirmed that Taraiya has been laid off and distanced itself from the assault, stating that he acted alone.

"We as Eastmatt condemn and do not stand for such heinous acts of disrespect against any of our staff and more so women," the supermarket said in a statement.
