On November 24, 2019, Hon. Samuel Arama, MP for Nakuru West, was acquitted by a court of law in a land fraud case.

The MP had been prosecuted by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on several counts of corruption, including abuse of office and fraudulent acquisition of land.

The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) into a complaint by a resident of Nakuru West constituency, Mr. Ahmed Muhammad Nisar.

Mr. Nisar alleged that the MP had dispossessed him of plot 6/95 in Nakuru Municipality through a fraudulent land transfer, with the MP colluding with officers from the Nakuru land registry.

According to the charge sheet, the MP had made a document without authority, purporting it to have been signed by Mr. Yusufu Mustafah Ratemo.

However, Milimani law courts Anti Corruption chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

The magistrate directed the accused, including the MP and another person, to be refunded their Ksh. 1 million cash bail respectively.
