On Sunday morning, a man on board the MV Harambee ferry jumped into the Likoni Channel, leaving behind a trail of uncertainty.

According to the Kenya Ferry Services (KFS), the incident occurred at 1:30am while the vessel was crossing from the mainland to the island side.

As the search for the body continues, KFS has released a statement detailing the events leading up to the incident.

‘The man was dressed in a white top and a black trouser, he left his seat dashed to the aft prow and dived into the water. We earnestly send our sympathies to the affected family,’ KFS stated.

Tragically, this is not the first ferry-related incident in the Likoni Channel. On September 29, 2019, a vehicle slid off the same ferry, resulting in the deaths of 35-year-old Mariam Kighenda and her 4-year-old daughter Amanda Mutheu.

The two victims were later buried on October 19, 2019, in Makueni county.
