On November 24, 2019, Nigerian footballer Sani Emmanuel announced on social media that his former teammate Ogenyi Onazi had sent him Naira 1.4m (US$4,000) for his medical bills.

Emmanuel, who played alongside Onazi at the 2009 FIFA U17 World Cup in Nigeria, has been struggling with a long-term achilles tendonitis problem that has hindered his professional career.

Onazi, who himself has been out of competitive football since December 2018 due to a ruptured Achilles, lent a hand to his former teammate, showing solidarity in their shared experience.

Emmanuel, who won the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player in 2009, expressed his gratitude to Onazi, saying, "Thank you very much, brother. May God continue to bless you. The surgery is scheduled for 2nd of December 2019."
