On November 22, 2019, the Kasarani Gymnasium played host to the National Kenya Volleyball Playoffs, where General Service Unit (GSU) and Kenya Prisons were seeking to defend their respective titles.

GSU, eyeing their third consecutive title and a record fourteenth championship, faced off against Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in a highly anticipated match. KPA, driven by their desire to lift the title, were determined to put up a strong fight.

Earlier in the day, KCB, who last won their title in 2008, clashed with holders Kenya Prisons in a decisive match. The bankers had beaten a depleted Kenya Pipeline by straight sets the previous day, setting up a thrilling tie with Prisons.

GSU coach Gideon Tarus expressed his team's determination to defend the title, stating, 'KPA have shown they are a good team but we are determined and ready to defend our title.'

GSU's assistant coach, however, was confident that his team had the strategy to overcome KPA. 'It will be a very tactical game, but I'm not worried about them at all because I have strategy for them,' he said.

GSU's opponents, KPA, were on a mission to end their jinx against the champions. 'It is my hope and prayers to beat GSU this time round because it has been a culture for them winning against us,' said KPA's coach, Samson Sunguti.

Kenya Prisons assistant captain Joy Luseneka was equally determined to reclaim the title, stating, 'We've been training hard for this tournament that's why I'm not surprised with our performance because that's the plan from the start.'
