Education CS George Magoha has announced that the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam results will be released before December 25, marking a departure from the earlier tradition of releasing results up to four months after the exams.

Magoha made the announcement during an event at Kapsisywa Secondary School on Saturday, where he delivered a Ksh. 100 million cheque from President Uhuru Kenyatta for a school to be built in honor of marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge.

According to Magoha, this year's results have come out well, and he expects better results than last year's. He noted that there had been a few incidents of exam cheating, but the culprits have since been arrested and arraigned.

Magoha's announcement is a continuation of the trend started by his predecessor, Fred Matiang'i, who released exam results before Christmas when he was Education CS. Matiang'i is referred to as the 'super CS' after President Uhuru Kenyatta put him in charge of coordinating delivery of national priorities and flagship programs.

During this year's KCSE exams, Matiang'i suspended leave for security officers to enhance safety at examination centers countrywide and deployed fellow Cabinet Secretaries across the country to oversee the exercise and report back to him.

The KCSE exams began on November 4, with close to 700,000 candidates countrywide taking part. There were several cases of candidates giving birth during the exam period and others who died after sitting for the national exam.
