On a thrilling Saturday at the Den in Ruaraka, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Rugby deputy coach Dennis 'Ironman' Mwanja reflected on his team's narrow 27-24 win over Homeboyz in a Kenya Cup rugby league match.

Published on November 23, 2019, the match saw KCB struggle to maintain their lead, with Homeboyz pushing them to the limit.

At the break, KCB trailed Homeboyz 14-8, but a controversial penalty try award by referee Constant Cap in the 55th minute gave them a 15-14 lead.

Winger Jacob Ojee then scored two tries in the 57th and 63rd minutes, with fly-half Shabaan Ahmed converting one, to pull KCB ahead 27-14.

However, Scrum-half Mohammed Omollo's efforts of a penalty and a conversion of his own try with four minutes to go failed to spur Homeboyz to victory.

Fullback Levy Amunga gave KCB the lead with a try, but Homeboyz turned the tables with a brace of tries from Kenya Sevens star winger Bush Mwale, which Omollo converted.

Homeboyz coach Jason Hector praised his team's display, saying, 'I can't take away anything from them since no one expected us to win.'

Despite the loss, Homeboyz showed that KCB can be beaten, and Mwanja acknowledged that his team needs to step up their play and not take things for granted.
