On November 23, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta directed regional commissioners to relocate people in flood and landslide-prone regions to safer areas.
While condoling with families affected by the landslide in West Pokot County, the President also ordered the deployment of the Kenya Defence Forces, the National Police Service, and Special Programmes to the region to join the rescue operation.
President Kenyatta assured that the operation would continue round the clock until the situation normalizes.
"To those whose loved ones are yet to be found, I assure you that the ongoing multi-agency rescue operation will continue until after every missing person is accounted for," the President said in a statement.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i stated that military and police choppers had been deployed to scale up responses to the tragedy.
Deputy President William Ruto condoled with the bereaved families and urged those in vulnerable areas to be on high alert.
