Luanda, Angola - November 23, 2019

A 12-year-old Angolan boy, Augusto Dembo, has become an unlikely celebrity after his deceased mother allegedly revealed on her deathbed that he was conceived through intercourse with a chimpanzee.

According to reports from the Gazeta Nacional, the boy's mother, Anita Dembo, had an affair with a chimpanzee during her employment as a conservation officer at the Parc national de Cameia since 1998.

Although the claim has sparked widespread sympathy and generosity towards Augusto, many experts dispute the theory, citing the rarity of such a conception.

Dr. António Mendes of the Hospital Municipal do Luena stated, “Sexual relationships between humans and chimpanzees are fairly common in the region but this is the first time a pregnancy is officially reported.”

Angola's President João Lourenço has praised the boy as a “National treasure”, “a sign from God” and a “testament to the majesty and greatness of the Republic of Angola.”

However, a spokesperson from the Parc national de Cameia expressed regret over Anita Dembo's alleged actions, stating that any sexual interaction between employees or visitors with animals is not encouraged behavior under current park guidelines.
