On November 23, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta directed the deployment of resources, including rescue personnel from various security and humanitarian agencies, to help in the rescue efforts in West Pokot County.

The devastating landslides, triggered by heavy rains, claimed the lives of 29 Kenyans on Friday night.

President Kenyatta directed the deployment of personnel from the Kenya Defence Forces, the National Police Service, and Special Programmes to the affected region to provide mitigative action against further loss of lives.

Regional Commissioners in flood and landslide-prone regions of the country were also directed to work closely with the security and humanitarian teams to ensure that citizens in these areas are urgently evacuated.

President Kenyatta expressed his condolences to the families, friends, and relatives of those who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident and wished quick recovery and restoration to those who were injured.

State authorities and local leaders have also urged people living in landslide-prone areas to move to safer ground as heavy rains continue in the region.
