Eastmatt Supermarket Supervisor Arrested for Assaulting Female Cashier

On November 20, 2019, Ibrahim Taraiya, a supervisor at Eastmatt Supermarket in Kajiado, was arrested for assaulting a female cashier. However, he was released the following day.

But his freedom was short-lived, as the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutor (ODPP) ordered for his immediate arrest on November 23, 2019, citing assault charges.

According to the ODPP, Taraiya will be arraigned in Kajiado court on November 25, 2019, for plea taking on the assault charge.

Eastmatt Supermarket has confirmed Taraiya's suspension and condemned the heinous act of disrespect against the female staff member.

"We as Eastmatt condemn and do not stand for such heinous acts of disrespect against any of our staff and more so women. The individual in question acted solely and has been suspension with a report officially being filed to the Kajiado county police and are handling the matter accordingly," Eastmatt said.

On November 19, 2019, a CCTV footage showed Taraiya slapping a female teller seven times while pulling out her chair by her hair.
