The Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA) placed an advert in a Tanzanian daily, highlighting that radio and television stations were hiring unqualified personnel.
According to TCRA, media houses are breaching the ethical guidelines of journalism by hiring individuals who do not meet the minimum educational qualifications required by law.
Media graduates have lamented that they are missing out on job opportunities, which are instead given to DJs and comedians with little knowledge of journalism's values and ethical guidelines.
Some journalists have welcomed the government's move, supporting the recent statement on the practice of journalism.
TCRA has warned media owners that it will take legal action against media houses that do not heed the warning, including fining them or revoking their licenses.
