On November 23, 2019, General Service Unit (GSU) solidified their position as the top contenders for the Kenya Volleyball Federation men's title after a convincing 3-0 win over perennial rivals Kenya Prisons at the Moi International Sports Centre Indoor Arena in Kasarani.
The GSU team, which has held the title since 2017, will now face off against Kenya Ports Authority in the final match to determine the overall winner, as both teams remain undefeated after two matches.
GSU's victory came on the heels of their 3-1 win against Kenya Defence Forces on Friday, showcasing their dominance in the competition.
The team's water right blocks, led by experienced player Cornelius Lagat, played a crucial role in their success, with Lagat, Abiud Chirchir, and Bonfenture Wekesa being the main contributors.
Prisons' efforts, led by Rodgers Kipkirui and Ibrahim Odouri, were not enough to stop GSU's winning streak, as they struggled with poor reception and failed to capitalize on their opportunities.
GSU's coach, Gideon Tarus, expressed confidence in his team's abilities, stating that they are 'unmoved' ahead of their clash with KPA on Sunday and are looking forward to a positive result that will see them retain the title.
Prisons' coach, David Lungaho, attributed their dismal performance to various factors, including the strong play of GSU and KPA, and vowed to reassess their team's strategy going forward.
