Published on November 23, 2019, Dangote Industries is set to invest $2 billion in a phosphate project located in Togo, with the aim of making Togo the main supplier of phosphate fertiliser in West Africa.
The project, which is expected to begin by the end of 2020, will see Dangote Industries utilise Togo's vast phosphate reserves, with the country boasting over 2 billion tonnes of phosphates.
Currently, Dangote Industries imports phosphate from Togo to make fertiliser in Nigeria, but with this new project, the company aims to reduce its reliance on imports and increase its production capacity.
Additionally, Dangote is also planning to build a cement factory in Lome, Togo's capital, with the project expected to cost around $60 million and have an annual production of 1.5 million tonnes.
The Dangote Group, founded by Aliko Dangote, is a Nigerian multinational industrial conglomerate with operations in ten African countries and over 18 subsidiaries.
