On the second anniversary of Bishop Cornelius Korir's passing, the Catholic community in Eldoret marked the occasion with a ceremony at the Eldoret Cathedral. The event was presided over by Bishops Maurice Crowley of Kitale and Dominic Kimengich of Lodwar.
During the ceremony, Fr William Sambu of Segutiet parish in Kericho diocese announced that the Bishop Cornelius Korir Segutiet Girls' Secondary School had been established. The school, located on a three-acre land, had already admitted Form One and Two students.
Fr Sambu revealed that the Sh20 million promised by President Uhuru Kenyatta was already in the school's bank account and would be used to construct eight classrooms and a modern laboratory facility. However, he acknowledged that the amount was insufficient and that additional funds would be needed to complete the project.
"The money is not enough, but once the project starts, we will mobilise friends of goodwill to assist us in raising funds to complete the projects," Fr Sambu stated.
Despite the government's promise, no political leader from Bomet county attended the ceremony, leaving the church and the family to take the initiative in ensuring the project's completion. The late bishop's elder brother, Raphael Korir, represented the family during the anniversary but did not comment on the school's progress.
