24 Dead as Landslides Wreak Havoc in West Pokot Villages

At least 24 people have died in West Pokot county following heavy rains that have resulted in massive landslides.

According to local administrator Joel Bulal, 12 people were buried alive in Nyarkulian village and four others in Parua village.

The Kenya Red Cross has dispatched rescue teams to ensure more lives are saved.

On Thursday, November 21, the Kenya Meteorological department warned of heavy rains and subsequent floods across the country.

Heavy rains have rendered roads impassable in West Pokot county.

Deputy President William Ruto has condoled with families of the victims.

"Sincere condolences to the families of the victims of the West Pokot landslide. May God give you peace and comfort, and may our prayers ease the pain of this great loss. We urge those in vulnerable areas to be on alert during this period of the short rains," he tweeted.
