On February 27, 2019, a 14-year-old girl visited a Kathonzweni government dispensary for medical examinations after being defiled earlier by three men. The facility was run by Samuel Mutisya, a clinical officer who would later turn against the teenager.
According to court documents, Mutisya instructed the girl's aunt to have her pick up the examination results herself, but instead, he defiled the girl and forced her to take a shower. A police officer residing in the same plot raised the alarm, leading to Mutisya's arrest.
Although Mutisya had been out on a Sh300,000 bond and a surety of the same amount, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison by Senior Principal Magistrate James Mwaniki. The magistrate stated that the court was satisfied with the evidence provided against Mutisya, who has 14 days to appeal.
