Published on November 23, 2019, a woman's encounter with a doctor at a restaurant near a sexology clinic sparked a conversation about the pain of a dry vagina.

She introduced herself as Laila, a woman at the verge of divorcing her husband of nine years due to her inability to bear the pain of sex. Her husband insisted on having sex almost daily, despite her pleas for him to stop.

According to the doctor, Laila's problem was not unique. In fact, about 16 per cent of women suffer from lack of lubrication during sex, a condition that can be caused by physical or psychological factors.

The doctor noted that the condition can be a result of a physical illness, hormonal imbalance, or an abnormality of the nervous system. However, the more common cause is psychological, often stemming from a bad sex experience, anxiety, or relationship problems.

When the relationship is in crisis, sexual excitement dies off naturally, and lubrication becomes a problem. In some cases, the bombardment with negative sex messages can numb sexual feelings, leading to withdrawal and numbness towards sex.

After a casual meeting at the restaurant, the doctor persuaded Laila to come to the clinic for a thorough examination. She was accompanied by her husband, and the couple underwent relationship therapy.

Fortunately, both were committed to making the relationship work, and within three months, they were able to face their differences and make amends. Natural lubrication flowed freely, and Laila's pain was alleviated.
