16 Feared Dead in West Pokot Landslide

Heavy rains have caused landslides in West Pokot County, Kenya, leaving at least 16 people feared dead.

According to local authorities, the landslides occurred in the villages of Nyarkulian and Parua, where 12 and 4 people respectively were buried alive.

Red Cross officials have been deployed to the area to assist in rescue efforts and ensure the safety of those affected.

On November 21, 2019, the Kenya Meteorological Department had warned of heavy rains and flooding in the coming days.

West Pokot County has been hit by landslides before, with the most recent incident occurring in October 2019 in Mombasa.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and follow evacuation orders from local authorities.
