On November 22, 2019, Deputy President William Ruto visited Kibra, a constituency in Nairobi, Kenya, where he addressed a thanksgiving rally organized by the Tanga Tanga faction of Jubilee.

The rally was held to thank the people of Kibra for voting for footballer McDonald Mariga, who was the party's candidate in the by-election.

During the rally, Ruto took aim at ODM leader Raila Odinga, saying, 'Kibra is not your bedroom. The only bedroom is the one you share with your wife. Kibra is for everyone so don't tell us nonsense.'

Ruto's comments were a clear reference to Raila Odinga, whom he accused of using underhanded tactics to win the by-election.

'We have learnt critical lessons from the Kibra election. Yule mzee alitafuta watu wamsaidie kwa bedroom lakini ajue kwa ground vitu ni different. He used violence to intimidate our supporters and we shall not allow him next time,' Ruto said.

His sentiments contradict President Uhuru Kenyatta's position, who praised the Kibra elections as being peaceful due to the handshake between him and Raila.

Despite the by-election defeat, Ruto vowed not to keep off Kibra politics, saying he had learned the tricks Raila used to win the election.
