Published on November 23, 2019, thousands of Colombians gathered across the country to protest President Ivan Duque's government, with renewed demonstrations taking place in the capital, Bogotá.
However, the protests turned violent in Valle del Cauca province, where three people were killed and looting occurred the day before the bomb blast.
On Friday, a bomb exploded at a police station in Santander de Quilichao, Cauca province, killing three officers and injuring ten others.
No group has claimed responsibility for the explosion, which occurred in a region known for drug trafficking.
President Duque addressed the nation, urging calm and promising to 'close social gaps' and fight corruption, but some Colombians took advantage of the protests to 'sow chaos.'
The Colombia protests coincide with demonstrations in other Latin American countries, including Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Nicaragua.
