On December 03, 2018, the Kasarani Indoor Gymnasium witnessed a thrilling match between General Service Unit (GSU) and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in the Men's Kenya Volleyball Federation National League play-offs. GSU emerged victorious with a 3-1 win (25-14, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17).
Meanwhile, Kenya Prisons secured a straight-set victory over their arch-rivals Kenya Pipeline with scores of 25-19, 25-23, and 25-13. The win was a significant boost for Prisons, who were without their injured captain Trizah Atuka and stand-in captain Naomi Too suffered a knee injury in the second set.
Too was stretchered off the court and rushed to Nairobi Hospital, leaving her teammates disappointed. Despite the setback, Prisons' star-studded squad, including Mercy Moim, Elizabeth Wanyama, Edith Wisa, Joy Luseneka, Immaculate Chemtai, Joan Chelagat, and Braxcides Agala, rallied to win the set 25-23.
Prisons went on to claim the third set with a 25-13 victory, solidifying their position in the league. According to Prisons' coach Josp Baraza, the win against Pipeline has put them in a better chance to defend the title.
“Definitely the win against Pipeline has put us in a better chance to defend the title. Pipeline gave us tough times at the start, but we stuck to our game plan and it paid off. Every department clicked,” Baraza said.
