On November 21, 2019, Floyd Mayweather sparked rumors of a possible comeback to professional boxing with a cryptic Instagram post.

Mayweather, a 42-year-old former welterweight boxing king, revealed that he was 'coming out of retirement' in 2020, although he provided no further details.

He made the announcement beneath a photo of himself wearing boxing trunks and hand wraps.

Mayweather's post read: "Coming out of retirement in 2020."

He also hinted at a potential collaboration with UFC tycoon Dana White on an event for next year, writing: "@danawhite and I working together again to bring the world another spectacular event in 2020."

Mayweather's last competitive boxing bout was in August 2017, when he knocked out Irish mixed martial arts superstar Conor McGregor in a money-spinning superfight in Las Vegas.

He had walked away from traditional boxing two years earlier after a win over Andre Berto, hanging up his gloves with an undefeated 49-0 record.

However, in December last year, Mayweather fought Japanese MMA star Tenshin Nasukawa in a widely ridiculed three-round exhibition fight, winning in the first round.
