Kiambu Deputy Governor Refuses to Work with Waititu

Published on November 22, 2019

Deputy Governor James Nyoro has categorically stated that he cannot work with his embattled boss Governor Ferdinand Waititu, who is facing corruption charges.

Waititu is accused of defrauding the Kiambu county government KSh 588 million in irregular tendering, and the court has barred him from accessing the county office until the case is heard and determined.

As a result, Nyoro took over the running of county affairs effective Tuesday, July 30, and promised to seal loopholes through which the taxpayers' money is lost.

Speaking during a public function, Nyoro said, "If the court says you return, we will leave the office for you because we cannot work in the same government. When you come in we will go forever but as long as we are here, we will continue to serve the people and let no one says he wants to operate from the office because the county is 'burning'"

The two leaders have often pulled in opposite directions and their differences played out in most public gatherings with each leader resorting to blame game.
