On November 22, 2019, the Kenya Scouts Association (KSA) spoke out against the misuse of its uniform by comedians Eric Omondi, Mammito, and an unnamed third humorist.

The comedians were photographed wearing Scout uniforms in a social media post that sparked outrage from the KSA.

"Our attention has been drawn to the photo of the renowned Kenyan comedians in Scout Uniform," said KSA chief commissioner Victor Radido in a statement. "While the association encourages and promotes arts and creativity, the use of sacred scouts gear such as badges and uniform is highly protected and must not be used inappropriately."

Radido noted that the comedians are not registered members of the KSA and therefore are not allowed to wear the uniform. He also pointed out that the uniform is a ceremonial gear for official functions and is not meant for physical activities such as mud-runs, swimming, and assault cases.

The KSA chief commissioner emphasized that scouting is a disciplined movement for young people who are messengers of peace and resolve conflicts through amicable and weapon-free interventions.

Radido cited the Kenya Scouts Act CAP 219, which protects the scout uniform and warns against its misuse, noting that abuse may attract punitive measures.

However, the KSA remains open to collaborating with the comedians and others to promote scouting and good values in the community.
