On November 22, 2019, a group of leaders in Kenya urged security agencies to dismantle organized gangs used by politicians to cause instability in the country.

The leaders, who spoke at a thanksgiving ceremony in Nairobi, expressed concern that the use of such gangs was posing a danger to the country's development and staining its democratic gains.

They noted that the increased use of gangs to cause violence during elections was denying Kenyans their political freedom and setting a dangerous precedent ahead of the 2022 elections.

Deputy President William Ruto, National Assembly Majority Leader Adan Duale, and other leaders called on the Inspector General of Police to act independently and rid the country of elements that threaten its stability.

They emphasized the need to safeguard the rule of law and condemn violence, regardless of who was responsible, and urged politicians to use development credentials as the basis for competition.
