On November 22, 2019, a tragic incident shook the community of Sunton Kasarani when the lifeless body of 24-year-old Kisii University student Leah Momanyi was discovered at her residence.

According to reports, Leah's boyfriend Benson Chacha found her lifeless body on the bed, with bloodstains on the floor. Chacha, visibly shaken, recounted the events of that fateful night in an interview with Citizen TV.

‘KUINGIA NIKAMPATA AMELALA ACROSS THE BED HALF-NAKED (UPON ENTERING THE HOUSE, I SAW HER LYING ACROSS THE BED HALF-NAKED). I WAS VERY CONFUSED,’ CHACHA SAID.

Chacha also spoke to The Star, expressing his trauma and shock at the murder of his young niece. He lamented the slow pace of police investigations, stating, ‘I AM VERY TRAUMATISED BY THE MURDER OF THIS YOUNG NIECE OF MINE. LEAH WAS A VERY HUMBLE YOUNG GIRL. THE POLICE HAVE TAKEN LONG TO COMMENCE INVESTIGATIONS.’

A postmortem examination revealed that Leah was raped, strangled, and stabbed to death. The caretaker of the apartment reported hearing screams at around 11:35 pm, but was unable to locate the source.

Below are photos from Leah's burial at her parents' home in Kisii.
