On November 18, 2019, Governor Gentiny Ngobila Mbaka of Kinshasa city was attacked by Congolese citizens in France.
The governor was targeted after it was alleged that he went on an extravagant shopping spree in Paris, sparking outrage among the local community.
A video shot during the incident showed the governor trying to escape from the citizens who mobbed him.
The mob carried the flag of Congo as they attacked and threw items at the governor, who was seen running for his life.
A Twitter user identified as @uche_ezeonye shared a video of the incident on his page, stating that the governor received a beating for his extravagant shopping.
His video received mixed reactions, with many people supporting the beating and promising to show up in the next public beating.
However, some have condemned the act as being barbaric and disrespectful to elected leaders.
According to @uche_ezeonye, all politicians deserve such treatment, especially Nigerian politicians.
