On the eve of her graduation, a 21-year-old Kibabii University student was brutally attacked by a lone assailant in Bungoma Town, leaving her with severe injuries.

The student, who was heading home with friends after a night out at an entertainment joint, was confronted by the attacker around 5am on Friday morning.

Her friends managed to escape, but the victim was left behind and subjected to a horrific ordeal, with the attacker raping her and severing her left arm from her body.

The attacker then tied a barbed wire on the bleeding stem of the upper limb, and the victim's arm was found wrapped in her bra and thrown on the roof of a nearby house an hour later.

Confirming the incident, Dr. Martin Mbati of the Bungoma West Hospital said that the victim was wheeled into the hospital while unconscious and was in a stable condition.

However, the medic added that it would be impossible to reattach the victim's arm due to the severity of the injuries.

Police have commenced investigations into the matter, with the suspect remaining at large.

Residents of Kibabii area have expressed concern over the increasing crime rate in the area, with at least six women, including university students, being raped in the last three months.
