Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been making headlines with his lavish lifestyle and controversies surrounding his administration. Published on November 22, 2019, a video of the governor dancing at a club in Nairobi sparked social media excitement.

Just three days prior, Sonko had received an international award in France for Nairobi's Social and Economic Equity trophy, beating 105 other cities worldwide. The award ceremony was part of the Milan Pact Awards 2019 held in Montpellier, France.

As the governor of Nairobi, Sonko has been known to record phone conversations with high-profile individuals, which he has made public on several occasions. He has accused Interior Principal Secretary Kibicho Karanja of targeting him with a witch-hunt and has also blamed Jubilee party officials for trying to oust him from office.

Recently, two of Sonko's drivers were charged with blocking President Uhuru Kenyatta's motorcade, despite the governor's communications director denying the incident. The drivers, Antony Wangamba and Joseph Njue, appeared before Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi and denied the charges.
