On November 22, 2019, the National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi made a significant move by annulling the stringent private security licensing regulations, which had been met with opposition from the private security industry.

The Joint Associations of Security Guards have expressed their willingness to engage with the government and other stakeholders to build and strengthen the industry.

According to a statement from the association, they seek to engage with the government and willing stakeholders in building the foundation for regulations that will align with the recommendations outlined by the National Assembly.

They added that they have taken steps to advise their members on the new developments and are keen to work with the government to address the industry's needs.

The regulations, which had a January deadline, required capacity training of all security guards' companies and employees. However, the private security companies had requested an extension of the deadline to three years to allow them to comply.
