Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o has appointed 14 new chief officers, but the move has been met with concerns over the suitability of some of the nominees.

One of the shortlisted candidates, Alphonce Ouya, was implicated in a fraud case while working at the National Hospital Insurance Fund in Kisii.

Despite this, Ouya has been cleared by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, according to Communications Director Alloys Ager.

“Who am I to question the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission?” Ager wondered when asked about the issue.

Senator Fred Outa, who played a crucial role in Nyong'o's election, has parted ways with Ouya, who is also the brother of former Kisumu chief-of-staff Patrick Ouya.

The governor's list has been forwarded to the county assembly for vetting, with the nominees including Paul Abuto, Rosemary Akinyi, and others.

Okoth will replace Orangi Angwenyi as the chief finance officer if approved by the assembly.

Since taking office, Nyong'o has struggled to replace chief officers who served during former governor Jack Ranguma's tenure, with his attempts ending up in court.
