As I reminisce about my younger days, I'm reminded of the countless hours my friend and I spent scouring the city for the perfect plate of masala fries. It was a quest that brought us closer together, and one that I'm still on today.

My friend, Ombaye, passed away a few years ago, leaving behind a void that can never be filled. His untimely death was a great loss, not just for me, but for his community, church, family, and friends.

One of the things that I miss the most about Ombaye is our shared love for food. As George Bernard Shaw once said, 'There is no sincerer love than the love of food.' We would often talk about our favorite dishes, and the hunt for the perfect plate of masala fries was always a topic of discussion.

Over the years, I've tried various places in Nairobi, from Sherlock's Den to Avanti, but none have come close to the perfect plate. However, my recent visit to Ashaki, off Ngong Road, has given me hope. The masala fries were hot, fresh, and spicy, with generous portions that left me feeling satisfied.

While the service at Ashaki may be surly, the food is definitely worth the visit. And at 300 shillings for a plate of masala fries, it's a steal. I'll definitely be back to try more of their dishes.

As I continue my search for the perfect plate of masala fries, I'm reminded of the power of food to bring people together. It's a quest that I'm proud to be on, and one that I hope will lead me to the ultimate culinary experience.
