On Wednesday night, a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate died in a botched delivery at a local dispensary in Seme, Kisumu County, Kenya. The 18-year-old girl had successfully completed her KCSE exams at Rata Secondary School earlier that day.

According to preliminary reports, the candidate had left the school with her colleagues as a day scholar and had not shown any signs of difficulties during the examination period. However, she developed labour pains at night and was rushed to the nearby dispensary, where she developed complications and died before she could be referred for more specialised treatment.

County Director of Education Isaak Atebe confirmed the incident, stating that a comprehensive report would be issued later to verify the preliminary report. Area Sub County Police Commander Hellen Rotich said they were yet to receive the report and could only comment once it reached their desk.

The KCSE examinations are set to come to an end next week.
