Comedian Eric Omondi is facing backlash from the Kenya Scouts Association after he shared a photo on his Instagram page that allegedly misuses the Kenya Scout uniform.

According to a statement published in the Kenyan Daily Nation on November 22, 2019, the Association is demanding that Omondi apologize and delete the image.

“While the Association encourages and promotes arts and creativity, the use of scared Scouts gear such as badges and uniform is highly protected and must not be used inappropriately,” the statement read in part.

The photo, which was uploaded on October 16, features Omondi posing with fellow comedian Eunice Mammito and another man clad in full attire of the Kenya Scouts, with a gun next to them.

The Association claims that the photo portrays scouts as an armed militia, which is a misuse of the uniform.

Under the Kenya Scouts Act CAP 219, the uniform is protected, and its misuse is strictly prohibited.

“It shall not be lawful for any person, not being under the rules Association duly authorized and entitled so to do, publicly to wear, carry or bear any uniform, badge token or emblem,” adds the statement.
