On November 22, 2019, a 70-year-old quack doctor was arrested in Rarieda sub-county for his alleged role in the death of a 21-year-old woman.
Samuel Okumu, the suspect, is accused of administering the wrong drugs to Penninah Atineo Arembe, who died moments after being injected at Ginga village in Kagwa sub-location.
According to Rarieda sub-county Police Commander Thomas Ototo, the police received a report from the area Assistant Chief Samuel Gwege that the woman died after being injected with adrenaline.
Mr. Ototo stated that the woman was asthmatic and that the suspect was called to help her since he had been known to be treating people in the village.
However, a few minutes after administering the drug, the woman died before the police were called to the scene.
Police have moved the body to Madiany sub-county hospital mortuary for postmortem as investigations begin.
Mr. Ototo stated that Okumu was arrested and locked up at Aram police station.
The police boss has urged members of the public to visit licensed health facilities when seeking medical attention rather than resorting to services from unqualified personnel.
