On October 25, Joyce Syombua and her two children, Shanice Maua and Prince Michael, arrived at Laikipia Airbase to spend time with Major Peter Mugure, her estranged husband. The family checked into house number A3, Major Mugure's official army residence, and spent the night at the barracks.

However, on the morning of October 26, the family's lives took a tragic turn. Autopsies revealed that the two children were strangled to death using a rope in house number A4, next door to Major Mugure's residence. Joyce Syombua was beaten to death inside Major Mwaura's house, number A3.

According to police findings, Major Mugure had planned the murders meticulously. He had invited his estranged wife and children to visit him at the Nanyuki air base, and had even requested to spend several days with his children in preparation for Shanice's birthday on November 1.

Major Mugure's alibi for the time of the murders has been called into question, as he made multiple trips in and out of the military base on October 26 without having his vehicle checked. A casual worker at the officers' mess, Collins Pamba, has confessed to having been offered an army job to help Major Mugure dispose of the bodies.

Police have since impounded Major Mugure's vehicle, which was allegedly used to clean the blood. The investigation into the triple homicide continues, with Major Mugure facing serious allegations.
