Marrying a Stranger: Actress Padita Agu's Shocking First-Day Marriage

November 22, 2019, was a day that changed the life of Nollywood actress Padita Agu forever. In a shocking revelation, she shared her story of marrying a man she met for the first time on their wedding day.

According to Agu, she was introduced to the man 15 years ago, and they maintained a long-distance relationship through daily phone calls. They committed to each other over the phone and agreed to marry the first day they met, with the condition that they would keep their plans a secret from their families.

However, as Agu made the wedding plans, she let it slip to a friend that she was planning to marry this man. Her friend was upset and discouraged her, warning her that she was making a huge mistake. Agu explained that she had been assured by her partner that they would dissolve the marriage if it didn't work out, but she now realizes that she should have been more forthcoming about her plans.

The couple met at the registry on their wedding day, with the cab drivers who drove them there signing the marriage certificate as witnesses. This marked the beginning of their troubled three-year marriage.

In the video, Agu revealed that her husband turned the tables on her, telling her that they couldn't dissolve the wedding because it was binding before God and the law. He warned her that attempting to break it would bring a curse on herself and her descendants. The relationship was toxic, and Agu even attempted suicide. They eventually parted ways after three difficult years.

Agu hopes that her story will inspire young girls, particularly the introverted ones, to make better life choices. She shared five lessons she learned from the secret marriage:

  • Never give in to pressure to commit.
  • Never assume you're familiar with someone you're chatting with on phone or social media.
  • Never settle for a spouse that you are not compatible with.
  • Never live in isolation.
  • Pray about your future partner before you commit.
