On November 22, 2019, a 20-year-old student, Benjamin Mwambengo, appeared in court facing charges of inflicting grievous harm after allegedly throwing a watchman from the second floor of a building in Nairobi.

The incident occurred on May 23 at Jimlizer Club in Buruburu, Nairobi, where Mwambengo and his friends were smoking bhang. The watchman, Harun Wanyama, had warned them to stop, but they turned against him, accusing him of interfering with their leisure.

According to the charges, Mwambengo and his friends grabbed the watchman and threw him down from the balcony, causing him to fall to the cemented ground. Wanyama was admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital for over four months before being discharged.

Mwambengo denied the charges before Makadara chief magistrate Heston Nyaga and was released on a surety bond of Sh100, 000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh50, 000. The case will be heard on March 24, 2020.
