First Marvel Comic Sets Auction Record

Published in 1939 by Timely Comics, the precursor to Marvel, a rare copy of the first Marvel comic book has sold for a staggering $1.3 million at auction.

According to Ed Jaster, senior vice president of the auction house, "This is a historic copy of a historic comic book." The comic, which was originally priced at 10 cents, has become a highly valuable collector's item.

Under the direction of screenwriter Stan Lee, Marvel in the 1960s created iconic superheroes that have become household names. The success of these characters has led to the creation of blockbuster films that have conquered box offices worldwide.

The sale of the first Marvel comic book has set a new auction record, surpassing the sale of "Amazing Fantasy #15," which featured the first appearance of Spider-Man and sold for $1.1 million in 2011.

The most expensive comic book in history remains the first issue of "Action Comics," published in 1938, which sold for $3.2 million in 2014.
