On November 21, 2019, opposition leader Raila Odinga gave formal consent to the new ODM leadership at the Nairobi County Assembly.

During a handing over ceremony at a Nairobi hotel, Raila asked the new leaders to ensure equity in committee membership to avoid chaos, as witnessed recently at the city assembly.

He also warned the MCAs against frustrating Devolution and urged them to conduct themselves with dignity and decorum, avoiding violence when resolving issues.

Notably, Raila's endorsement came just two days after ODM made changes to its party representation at the assembly, appointing Karen Ward MCA David Mberia as the Minority Leader, replacing MCA Elias Otieno.

Minority Chief Whip Peter Imwatok and Deputy Minority Chief Whip Moses Ogeto retained their positions despite a spirited attempt by ODM MCAs to oust them.
