On Tuesday morning, a disturbing video clip went viral, showing a hapless man, Anthony Machoka, being beaten by three men outside the Bomachoge Borabu Constituency development offices in Kisii. The incident occurred five months ago, but the victim only recently spoke out, alleging police intimidation.
According to Machoka, the three suspects, including a CDF official, Samuel Ochera, and Bob Nyaosi, were identified in the clip. The matter was reported at Kenyenya Police Station, but it is unclear why action was not taken.
Speaking to the Standard, Machoka alleged that when he went to record a statement with the police, he was instead arrested and forced to pay Sh5,000 cash bail. He contradicted Kisii County Commander Martin Kibet's statement that the victim had agreed to withdraw the case.
Yesterday, area MP Prof Zadock Ogutu confirmed that the three staff seen in the clip roughing up the victim had been sacked. The incident has raised mixed reactions from locals, with some calling for the immediate prosecution of the suspects.
Denis Gekara said that no person should be allowed to assault anybody either in public or in private.
