On November 21, 2019, nine members of the Nairobi County Assembly voted to censure Governor Mike Sonko, citing poor leadership and service delivery.
Led by Senator Johnson Sakaja and Makadara MP George Aladwa, the MPs accused Sonko of failing to provide adequate services to the people of Nairobi.
'The county of Nairobi has grown, but corruption is not far behind, and those who expose corruption are the ones who are being funded by the county government,' a statement from the MPs read.
The MPs threatened to impeach Sonko if he fails to improve service delivery, citing the absence of a deputy governor as a major challenge.
The move is seen as a major blow to Sonko's administration, which has been marred by corruption allegations and inefficiency.
