November 21, 2019, was a day of controversy in the Kenyan Parliament, as Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi called for the arrest of four Members of Parliament over a sex tape that she claims has damaged her reputation.

The four MPs in question are Eldas MP Aden Keynan, Abdihakim Mohamed of Fafi Constituency, Isiolo Woman Representative Rehema Jaldesa, and Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici.

Ms. Gedi made the call after the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Committee, chaired by Speaker Justin Muturi, rejected a report that recommended she be reprimanded for allegedly leaking Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) summons to the four MPs over the video.

Ms. Gedi accused the four MPs of uttering defamatory statements that tarnished her name following the circulation of the unverified video. She also accused National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale of using his position to frustrate her and push for harsh penalties against her in the rejected report.

“Duale has been frustrating my efforts to get justice. He wants me reprimanded for defending myself…that is not leadership,” Ms. Gedi told Citizen Digital on phone.
