On November 21, 2019, a dispute over unpaid rent for a Marsabit governor's residence escalated, with a local property owner claiming Sh2.2 million in arrears.

Mr Soke Ote, the property owner, alleged that the Marsabit County government had failed to pay the rent despite several written reminders.

According to Mr Ote, he had written to the county secretary on October 22, 2019, but had yet to receive a response.
