The EastAfrican, a publication of the Nation Media Group, has marked its 25th anniversary with celebrations across its bureaus in Nairobi, Kampala, Dar es Salaam, and Kigali.
Launched in November 1994, the weekly publication has been at the forefront of documenting the East Africa Community's (EAC) integration journey, providing factual, timely, and relevant news to its readers.
According to Francis Munywoki, the Nation Media Group's managing director for the Newspaper Division, the publication's commitment to delivering high-quality news remains unchanged.
'Our commitment to continue delivering factual, timely, and relevant news to our readers remains our key objective for years to come,' Mr Munywoki said.
The EastAfrican has played a significant role in documenting EAC's key milestones, including the revival of the trading bloc in November 2000, and has captured both the high and low moments for the region.
As the publication marks its 25th year, it is also coinciding with the EAC's 20th year of re-unification.
Washington Gikunju, The EastAfrican's Managing Editor, noted that the publication has maintained its commitment to professional, balanced, and objective journalism, despite attracting criticism along the way.
'Infrastructure inadequacies, huge economic inequality among the populace, political intolerance, and suppression of human rights are alive today as they were in 1994, these continue to be the focus of the paper in the next 25 years and beyond,' Mr Gikunju said.
