On November 21, 2019, Sky News issued an editorial correction admitting to relying on 'misleading information' in a report filed by its Africa correspondent John Sparks.

The report, which was later retracted, identified Paul Manyasi as the Kenyan who fell from a London-bound plane in June. However, a report by Daily Nation revealed that the person in the photos used by Sky News was actually Cedric Shivonje, who is currently being held at a Kenyan prison.

According to the Daily Nation report, Cedric Shivonje's father, Isaac Betti, had misled Sky News by confirming that Paul Manyasi was his son and that the personal effects retrieved from the Kenya Airways compartment belonged to him.

Isaac Betti told The Nation that he had played along with the conclusion drawn by the British reporter to protect his son, who was in prison at the time.

He further revealed that John Sparks had given him Ksh20,000 after acquiring the information he needed from him.

As a result of the contradictory evidence, Sky News apologized for its 'erroneous' report and retracted the story.
